93 Edward Plumpton to Sir Robert Plumpton, 27 November [1490] (No.
193, p. 129)“The replycacion of Margret Scargill1 to þe answere of William Scargill.
The same Margrett sayth þat þe byll put by hir agaynst þe sayd William
is good & true in euery poynt, & þat þe same John Scargill, named in
the sayd byll, made such wyll of þe same maner, lands, tenements &
other premyses, & euery of them, as is [. . .]a surmytted by the same
byll; & ouer that, sayth althings as in þe sayd byll is surmytted. All
which matters she is redy to prove as this court will award, & prayeth
as in hir byll is desired.”In my right humble & tender wyse I recomend me vnto your good
mastership & to my singuler good ladyes. Sir, I sent to you the copie
of þe replycacion of Marg[aret] Scargill, whervpon my lord chaunceler2
hath, at our speciall desire, comand a dedimus potestatem to Sir Guy
Fayrfax to heare & examyn ther proves & ours both, in Yorkshire.
Wherfore I wold aduyse your mastership to shew your copies of ther
byll, our ansere & there replicacion to Mr William Fayrfax,3 þat he
may be perfitt by them, & your [p. 130] instruccion in þe matter, & to
be for William Scargyll afore Master Sir Guy, at þat day of his sytting,
with all other proves most necessary for him; & in any wyse se þat
William S. agree with Watson, & bryng him vp with him to London
to release his suerty for þe peace, or els he must goe to ward, or els
loose c marke, & euery one of hisb iiij 1 marke, þe which God forbid
shold be. Sir, afore your lands in Craken, I can not deale
with my Lady [. . .]c<Delfs>: I find hir varyable in hir promyse.
Wherfore I haue, according to your comandment, letten them in your
name to Mr Blunt by indenture, as more at larg appereth by þe same,4
the which I sent to you within this box inclosed vnder my seale; & ye
to subscrybe your hand, & to send a seruant of yours with the same
box & indenturs to thabbay of Dale,5 & ther to se thabbot & conuent
seale þe oblygation for suerty of your rent, as in them is specified, &
to wryt his name down to deliuer one parte to Mr Blount, & retine
another parte for you, with the obligation. All such matters as ye wrote
for by George Croft, dout not for them: I haue & shall remember them
to thaccomplishment of your mynd, with grace of Jhesu, who you &
yours long preserue in prosperous felicite to endure. From London, the

To my master Sir Robart Plompton, knyght.
"The replycacion of Margret Seargill to the answere of Wil-
