57 The earl of Northumberland to Sir Robert Plumpton, 19 November [1486 × 1487] (No. 56, p. 34)
Right trusty & welbeloued cousin, I gret you hartely well. And wheras I conceiue that ye prepared yourselfe to have ridden with me to this day of trewe,1 I wele remembring that it wer not oonly to your great labor but also to your cost & great charg, therefore I take me oonly to your good wyll and thankfull disposicion, for the which I hartely thank you, and am right well content and pleased that ye remaine still at home. Written at Derham, the xix day of Nouember.

1 Northumberland was restored to the wardenship of the Marches 3 Jan. 1485/6 on an annual basis; his contract was renewed 26 Feb. 1487/8. On the 30 Jan. 1485/6 he was appointed a commissioner to treat for peace with Scotland, a peace which was ratified 26 July 1486, Rotuli Scotiae in Turri Londoninense et in Domo Capitulari Westmonasteriense Asservati (2 vols, 1814, 1819), ii, 463–4, 470–1, 484–5.
